Writings by Barri Cae MallinAs Jews Worldwide Sit DownMonday 25 April 2005 - 13:56:51As Jews worldwide sitdown to celebrate the remembrance of the Passover, it is fitting to give glory to Jesus the Messiah, Yeshua HaMashiach, our Passover lamb. It is also fitting to remember His death. For Christ Messiah our Passover is sacrificed for us; therefore let us keep the feast (I Corin. 5:7-8). None of the four gospels records all of the words spoken by Jesus, Yeshua, as He hung on the cross. It might have been possible that He spoke more words in those six hours but the chronicle of these events is fragmented (the secret things belong to the LORD our God - Deut. 29:29a). We need all four accounts to enable us to determine what happened on that crucial day, Nisan 14, the most crucial day in the history of the world. Yeshua first spoke three statements of intercession. As He was always caring for others, He spoke words for His enemies: "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do," Luke 23:34 He spoke words for His fellow sufferers: "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in paradise." Luke 23:43 He spoke words for His mother: "Woman, behold your son!" John 19:26-27 Then Yeshua spoke two statements of suffering. Spiritual suffering: "My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?" Mark 15:34 Physical suffering "I am thirsty." John 19:28 Yet it is His last words that bring hope, encouragement and promise to all who have accepted Him as their Messiah and Savior. A statement of triumph "Tetelestai! It is finished!" John 19:30 A statement of rest "Father, into Thy hands I commit My spirit." Luke 23:46 Tetelestai! It is finished! Yeshua Jesus died with the cry of victory on His lips. He not only completed the work that the Father had for Him to do, He completed it perfectly. He carried out to the finish that which was His mission on earth. His was not a weak cry of relief but a triumphant cry of victory. Redemption is complete! and not only is redemption is complete, it is perfectly completed, now and forevermore. Into Thy hands I commit My spirit. These words are found in Psalm 31:5 and they have formed part of the evening prayer for pious Jews throughout these centuries. These words are appropriate to be found upon Jesus' lips at His death. These are words of rest. He has completed the Father's mission of redemption. Redemption always comes at a price. The blood of the lamb applied to the front doorposts and lintel of the home protected the family from the angel of death. "When I see the blood, I will pass over you." We are redeemed by the Blood of our Passover Lamb, Yeshua Jesus. We have right-standing before God, all because of our Passover Lamb. We are redeemed from death and hell, sin and its power, the grave, our enemies, and evil, all because of our Passover Lamb. He didn't pay for us with gold or thirty pieces of silver, or by the blood of bulls and goats, but He redeemed us by His own blood. "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing." Rev. 5:12 |
