CARRY THE LIGHT

At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus Yeshua was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. John 10:22-23

SUFFERING’S JOY

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;

but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.

Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right. I Peter 4: 12-13, 19

BROKEN FOOT PART DEUX

BROKEN FOOT PART DEUX

Affliction 101 is not an easy course to take. Ten years ago, while attending a conference, during worship time, dancing the Israeli hora, I took a misstep and ended up breaking my right foot. It was so severe that I needed two surgeries and was on the bed recovering for over four months. To add to the challenge, I had just been relocated from wonderful Nashville to Kansas City. It was a hard place, one of the most severe trials that I have ever had in my life. These little missives, these devotionals were the fruit of that experience, as I needed to share my pain. The LORD used one of the worst experiences in my life to totally change my life for the better. Nothing is complete without the cross.

MUSAR ADONAI

I grew up in a home with three younger brothers. I was spoiled; I always had my own room, but my three brothers shared a large bedroom when they were very young. You put three young boys in one bedroom and you will get fights, sibling rivalry and pillow fights. I remember numerous times my father climbing the stairs walking past my bedroom on the way to their bedroom. I knew he had the belt and he was going to give my brothers a spanking. My brothers would get quiet immediately; they knew that my father’s entry meant that he had some punishment for them. I never was present during any of the spankings; I just heard my brothers’ crying. I learned decades later that my brothers faked the crying! Dad spanked them on top of their bedcovers; they knew how to fake out my father.

One of my most favorite things to do in school was going on field trips. My favorite field trip was to the Manor Bakery in Kansas City, mostly because of the treats they gave to us after our visit. But second favorite was going to the planetarium. We got to sit in comfortable seats while the science teacher would have us lean back, look up and note the different constellations above us. The room was dark, the ceiling was dark and I loved looking up and learning about the celestial formations. These days, one does not even have to leave the comfort of one’s home as visiting the planetarium is as easy as clicking a mouse (http://www.neave.com/planetarium/)

DEATH

DEATH

No one likes the thought of death. Although we think we can handle the subject, we cannot without the help of the LORD. My ‘spiritual mom’ who was 85 years old, just passed away a few weeks ago. Cancer came upon her suddenly; we knew it was her time for promotion but getting through the dying tested her beyond words could express. In one of the final conversations that we had, I asked her how God revealed Himself to her (she could not even hold a Bible at this point). She said that a lone bird came into the courtyard every day; she knew that the LORD had sent that little birdie to assure her of His love.
